December Updates from NUFORC

On December 12, 2009 NUFORC posted an update after a long delay. Over 1800 new or amended reports have been posted to the NUFORC database.

Peter B. Davenport, the Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, warns that newly posted reports may be fraught with errors on the part of the authors, and oversights in proofreading on their part.  Peter expresses his appreciation to visitors who would keep an eye out for obvious hoaxes, profanity and personal information in the description part of the reports, as well as reports that are obvious events with a terrestrial nature such as satellites and missile launches as well as planets.

There are sightings highlighted this month from Florida, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Washington.

Text of the audio communications between FAA and two commercial aircraft in the vicinity of Long Island, New York, on November 17, 1995, at 2220 hrs. (EST) is available here.

If you are new to the NUFORC website, here is a case highlighted by the Director about a wide area sighting within the Eastern half of the United States.

From the report:
it appears that one or more egg-shaped objects, radiating intensely bright green, blue-green, and yellow light, and periodically spewing out a cloud of sparks, streaked over at least seven states, stopping from time to time, and the whole event occurred in a matter of minutes!!

One of the Center's policies, which distinguishes its operations from most other UFO organizations, is that it makes available to the public all of its data in summary form. Detailed information is made available to experienced UFO investigators. Monthly sighting report summaries are posted on the web site.

The Men Who Stare At Goats

"Welcome to those who will dare to think the unthinkable, the awakened warriors, and you evolutionary scouts. You are in good company..."
--Jim Channon

The Men Who Stare at Goats opens November 6, 2009.

Starring George Clooney, Keven Spacey, Jeff Bridges, Ewan McGregor and of course the goat, this quirky dark comedy is based on the book written by Jon Ronson.

At first it was hard to believe this movie was based on a real life story about a top-secret wing of the U.S. military. I found out that there was also a documentary released in 2004 by Ronson that ties into the book. Ronson talks to Jim Channon, Albert Stubblebine, Guy Savelli and other figures associated with a secret US Army unit founded in 1979 called the First Earth Battalion.

I have learned much since being sucked into this wormhole opened up to me by a simple movie trailer. There is much much more I have to learn and I'll be glad to drag a few million movie goers along for the ride.

If you'd like to learn more, you can begin your journey where I started, over at First Earth Battalion.

According to Channon the following will be scrolled at the end of the movie:

"Thank you to Jim Channon Cmdr First Earth Battalion and the military mavericks of the FirstEarthBattalion.org who to this day help keep our hardworking militaries focused on creative service to our planet."

Spice Up Your Coffee

Coffee is a good diversion and with a few ingredients found in most cupboards and refrigerators, the varieties are endless. Recently I've been spicing up my coffee in an attempt to use less sugar. It took trial and error to get it just the way I like it, but I am pleased with final product; at least until I get bored with it and move on to something else. The trick for me was to get the blend of spices so none of them over power the other. If you try this, it make take some time to adjust it to your particular tastes. I don't use any one type or brand of coffee, just off the shelf canned ground to drip.

Ingredients

Cup of your favorite coffee
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Ground Red Pepper
Hot Chocolate Powered Mix
Sugar and cream per your usual

Add the creamer, sugar, a spoonful of chocolate mix and the spices into the cup first.

My preferences are a good dash of cinnamon, a tiny pinch of nutmeg and a small dash of red pepper.

Mix up all the dry ingredients. Add coffee and still well.

It should give your coffee a clean after bite. You don't want the nutmeg to be immediately noticeable, as in "wow, that's got nutmeg!" You want it to mingle with the initial sweetness of the pepper.

Let me know what you think or if you have any recommendations.

November is National Novel Writing Month

"Make no mistake: You will be writing a lot of crap."

November is National Novel Writing Month. It is a "fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30."

The website NaNoWriMo is packed with well organized information, support and inspiration. There are FAQs and a forum for peer support. Groups are set up by region, and you will even have the chance to meet with fellow writers in your area.

The challenge is to write a 50,000 word novel by November 30th. Quality does not matter. Quantity is key. This website's goal is to motivate writers to write every day, no matter how they feel or how busy their lives are. It helps to push writers out of editing and rewriting and fussing over the details such as flow or plot consistency. A writer is his or her own worst critic. Him-hawing over the finer points can be done at any time, but if there isn't enough to him-haw over there will never be that novel you've always been meaning to write someday.

Make someday this year!

Fun Edutainment in Chemistry

Don't worry, I'm not going to talk about anything too geeky. I have been doing chemistry research from a fairly layman's point of view. I found a fun match game for monoatomic ions as well as some videos on YouTube that explain many elements, one at a time, usually with fun examples. If anything, check out the British Professor's hair. Totally "Mad Scientist"! Also found a well put-together website geared toward teaching kids chemistry. Why aren't college classes like this? If I'm not careful I might actually learn a thing or two about chemistry!

Mystification - Part Circus, Part Vaudeville, All Magic!

I recently attended what I thought was going to be a run of the mill, average magic act in the small town of Crystal Falls, Michigan. I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained. Check out my article over at Associated Content, and watch the video at YouTube of Barbara Tegge performing antipodism. You can see more photos on MySpace as well

Have Energy for the Fun Things In Life!

Everybody needs diversions, past times, entertainment, games or sports at some point in their life. At times we forget we need to have fun to make the drudgery of everyday life worth waking up for. There are times when we might feel zapped after a long day or a long week of the daily grind.

Perhaps if our bodies were running at optimal efficiency, all those lovely diversions would be more enjoyable.

Bob Beck revealed a simple process that apparently "cleaned out" the system of research subjects by purifying the blood. You don't even have to ingest anything and you can make the simple apparatus yourself! It's based in science and created by a scientist who never made a dime off the product (on purpose). It's been well documented of being used safely.

Watch this playlist on YouTube to see what I'm talking about. It may just change your life!

The Health Benefits of Silver

Colloidal silver is helpful in many ways.  It used to be more popular before the advent of modern antibiotics, but it is again regaining popularity.

Silver is nature’s own little wonder metal, with its ability to kill disease causing organisms. It is, beyond a shadow of a doubt, one of the most powerful antibiotics known to man. (“The Health Benefits of Colloidal Silver”, Healtmad, Novie 2006)

Wikipedia defines a colloid as particles which remain suspended without forming an ionic, or dissolved solution.

It goes on to state: The broader commercial definition of "colloidal silver" includes products that contain various concentrations of ionic silver, silver colloids, ionic silver compounds or silver proteins in purified water. Colloidal silver with concentrations of 30 parts per million (ppm) or less are typically manufactured using an electrolysis process, whereas colloidal silver with higher concentrations of 50 ppm or more are usually silver compounds that have been bound with a protein.

Dr. Bob Beck helped to popularize colloidal silver once again.  He has since passed on, but did authorize just one company, SOTA, to manufacture products according to his specifications, such as the Silver Pulser and Ozonator water oxygenator.  You can learn more about Dr. Bob Beck and his inventions on this health documents page.  There is also a downloadable PDF with instructions to create your own Silver Pulser.

Some places sell a very expensive and watered down version of colloidal silver.  When tested the ppm is extremely low.  Their defense is that they are using a homeopathic method, in which the water takes on the properties of the particles.  I have trouble believing this.  If it were true, then would there be any malnutrition or hunger in the world?

It is most economical and reliable to learn how to create your own colloidal silver with either a homemade or store bought device and keep a supply on hand.  I make my own about once month which only takes a few minutes of setup and a few hours keeping an eye on the process.  Since I have started taking maintenance doses that costs but a few cents, I no longer catch any colds.  I’ve also noticed it seems to reduce the swelling and itching of bothersome mosquito bites when I apply a compress soaked in colloidal silver.

Free Things from Walmart

About every month or so I go to the Walmart website to see what samples they are giving away. This month they have a wide selection. There are two different lotions to choose from, feminine products, Nutrish from Rachel Ray, Crest Whitestrips as well as a few other items.

At any given time there are at least 3 items and from what I can tell after a few years of following their samples, they seem to complete rotate about every four to five weeks.

Here is the link to the sample section of the Walmart website.

Until next time - Go get something for nothing!
