OiNK Admin Found Not Guilty, Walks Free

From torrentfreak.com, by enigmax

Lawyers have presented their final arguments in the trial of Alan Ellis. The prosecution slammed the ex-OiNK admin, saying that the site was set up with dishonest and profiteering intentions right from the start. The defense tore into IFPI and countered by calling Ellis an innovator with talents to be nurtured. Today the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty, and Ellis walked free.

Judging by the 204 comments as of writing this blog, the torrent community is stoked over this "win". Alan Ellis was charged and found not guilty of Conspiracy to Defraud the music industry.

Black Cohosh - An Alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy

From the article "Black Cohosh - A Woman's Ally" by Linsay Wilson

Hot flashes, night sweats, and severe mood swings are, for many women, the most common symptoms associated with menopause, and until recently hormone replacement therapy (HRT) was the most common conventional treatment. But since a landmark 2002 study linked synthetic HRT to serious health risks, including an increased risk in breast cancer, stroke, and heart attack, more women and their healthcare practitioners have turned to safer, natural alternatives to manage menopause. Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa), a North American herb traditionally used by Native Americans to address gynecologic disorders, has become a star among herbal remedies for treating menopausal symptoms.
Numerous clinical studies, largely conducted on the product Remifemin, which contains a standardized extract of black cohosh, have confirmed the effectiveness of the herb in reducing the frequency and severity of hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings. As with any herb, black cohosh is not a cure-all, but for those women who responded to the herb, they responded extremely well.

Viddler: Good for Fun, Good for Business

It took me a few years to finally bite the bullet and sign up for a video based community.  I now have hundreds of subscriptions and probably close to a thousand favorites.  I even got brave and uploaded a few videos this year, though you won't find my face on them!

I've been thinking of spending more time on serious subjects and creating more in depth videos to get my feet wet with gaining exposure for my blogs and social sites. With the long term issue of actually being able to post comments it was a reminder that I need to diversify.  I don't live exclusively on Facebook, and so I should not live exclusively on YouTube.  I've put my eggs in one basket for far too long.

This is where I had to think back to video communities that my friends have mentioned.  Viddler was the first one that came to mind  I was surprised to find that they have complete business solutions as well, including white label video hosting.  This is definitely advantageous should I wish to make the leap into marketing with videos or using videos as part of the value in a product or service. I don't have a need for quite yet for Viddler's video streaming hosting service business solutions, but it is nice to know  I can have complete control of my videos, analytics, and Viddler will even help you manage ads directly on your videos for small business. Best of all you can control who can view your videos!  Hosting and services starts at $100 a month, but with included unlimited tech support and the ability to recoup funds with embedded ads, this is pocket change for websites like CNN Video, where videos are usually the main attraction for their visitors.

I've just signed up for Viddler and you can find my profile here. Feel free to share some of your favorite videos with me! If you have any hints or suggestions on how to get the most out of Viddler for a completely new user, please post your comments below.

December Updates from NUFORC

On December 12, 2009 NUFORC posted an update after a long delay. Over 1800 new or amended reports have been posted to the NUFORC database.

Peter B. Davenport, the Director of the National UFO Reporting Center, warns that newly posted reports may be fraught with errors on the part of the authors, and oversights in proofreading on their part.  Peter expresses his appreciation to visitors who would keep an eye out for obvious hoaxes, profanity and personal information in the description part of the reports, as well as reports that are obvious events with a terrestrial nature such as satellites and missile launches as well as planets.

There are sightings highlighted this month from Florida, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Washington.

Text of the audio communications between FAA and two commercial aircraft in the vicinity of Long Island, New York, on November 17, 1995, at 2220 hrs. (EST) is available here.

If you are new to the NUFORC website, here is a case highlighted by the Director about a wide area sighting within the Eastern half of the United States.

From the report:
it appears that one or more egg-shaped objects, radiating intensely bright green, blue-green, and yellow light, and periodically spewing out a cloud of sparks, streaked over at least seven states, stopping from time to time, and the whole event occurred in a matter of minutes!!

One of the Center's policies, which distinguishes its operations from most other UFO organizations, is that it makes available to the public all of its data in summary form. Detailed information is made available to experienced UFO investigators. Monthly sighting report summaries are posted on the web site.
The National UFO Reporting Center is a non-profit Washington State corporation, and it is applying for federal 501 C (3) non-profit status.
